Pathways.00 is a short animated film that explores the intersection of human fluid expression and algorithmic geometry. Rendered in real-time using custom written procedural systems, the piece features multiple digital humans moving in complex, choreographed patterns. Their spatial positioning is determined computationally, allowing their overlapping bodies and moving limbs to generate shifting, interlocking designs.

Pathways interrogates the tension between autonomy and predetermination, between computational symmetry and organic human movement. By utilizing high-fidelity motion capture data of deeply expressive, fluid dance movements and mapping them onto identical, mannequin-like figures, the work strips away individual identity to focus entirely on pure form and motion. These figures possess emotionless, mask-like faces; they do not communicate with each other, yet they feel part of a greater whole, existing within a shared consciousness.

The aesthetic of Pathways is starkly minimalist, designed to strip away narrative distraction and heighten spatial awareness. The figures inhabit an empty, infinite expanse — an environment defined only by a single, desaturated color field and a soft gradient fog that blurs the boundaries of the horizon. A uniform grid of dots stretches across both the floor and the ceiling, acting as a structural matrix that mirrors the computational logic governing the choreography

About the Artist

Daniel Sierra is a Los Angeles-based digital artist who utilizes real-time graphics engines and custom code to explore the visualization of music, human movement, and algorithmic design. Heavily inspired by dreams, the surreal, music and emergent systems, Daniel creates hypnotic digital worlds to get lost in. His multidisciplinary practice bridges independent art with extensive experience in spatial computing, having designed and built foundational virtual reality interactions at Meta Reality Labs and Microsoft HoloLens. Additionally, his work at WaveXR pioneering live virtual concerts inside game engines deeply informs his approach to real-time performance and immersion.
